Indian Army Chief Warns To Be On Alert Against Terrorists

November 03, 2009 11:30:00
Terrorism is the most substantial threat for the South Asian region particularly for the countries, India, Pakistan and neighboring regions depicting possibilities of another 26/11 attack, said army chief Deepak Kapoor.

Based on the emergency alert sent by the intelligence wing of the Navy, the metro cities Mumbai, Kolkatta and Bangalore went on high alert on Nov 2 as the report said they were prone to terrorist assault more vicious than the one that happened in Mumbai.

The local police started scrutinizing the entire city while people were panicked with the flash news displayed by the English news channels. Media hype further depleted the situation before it reached to the knowledge of Minister P. Chidambaram. He ordered a thorough investigation into this rumor to be assisted by the generals of the three wings.

The rumor was declared false and intelligence reports were warned to be sent only after verification.

On the sidelines of an army function, Kapoor spoke to the media about the state of the country and said the South Asian countries should battle collectively. He denied allegations that India lent support to any of militants to assault Pakistan and said, "We want Pakistan to be stable and peaceful."

Deepak Kapoor also said the naxals will be destroyed in due time by the highly trained paramilitary forces and the fight against terrorism should be tweaked more effectively.
