'Nadodigal' - Friendship Personified
Jun 29,2009
Global Infotainment production 'Nadodigal' is a welcome relief from the regular commercial crap and so-called mass hero subjects relying largely on... surprisingly it's not love this time around but an ode to friendship by director Samuthirakani.
The director should have had a close bond with his friends and their role in his life should have been crucial which inspires him to make films on the same including 'Unnai Saranadainthen'. With the popular face Sasikumar in the lead cast, Samuthirakani has done a laudable job of making a film that not only entertains but carries a message which is essential for contemporary generation.
The story part is crisp and simple about three close knitted friends. The guys have their own dreams and goals to be achieved in life for which they thrive hard. Karunakaran (Sasikumar), a BA History graduate aspires to bag a government job so as to marry his uncle's daughter, Pandi (Bharani) awaits his passport while Chandran (Vijay Vasanth) works day and night to setup a computer centre of his own. Everything goes well until fate arrives in the form of a friend and within the blink of an eye things go topsy-turvy leaving the trio in lurch as nomads.
Cast of the film especially debutants Ananya, Abhinaya and Neha have come out with a riveting performance. The lead protagonist role of a matured and dedicated friend suits Sasikumar aptly without a slag. Maybe if the director decides to take up such good scripts, he sure has a bright future as an actor but definitely he's not supposed to try his hands at dancing again! Vijay Vasanth from 'Chennai-28' in a subtle demeanor does justice to his part. The witty friend from 'Kalloori' Bharani undoubtfully is best at his emotions. Be it bearing pain for the sake of friendship, bursting out on errs or throwing sarcastic dialogues even at the most melancholic moments, Bharani rules!
Producer of 'Nadodigal' Namo Narayanan has enacted the role of a generous village gentleman with a thirst for paeans and almost on his every appearance the roof comes down with laughter. Ganja Karuppu after 'Subramaniapuram' has teamed up with Sasikumar and it's definitely good. The characters of the family members are realistic and touch the emotional string at times.
?The camera travels along the path of the story with the on-screen emotions of action, love, friendship and betrayal with the right tone. Thanks to cinematographer Kathir. Musical score by Sundar C. Babu is just average in the songs while the theme music 'Sambo Siva' is brilliantly mastered. Dialogues are a major plus for it is simple and acerbic to match the outburst of feelings. For people who have a penchant for gore, the stunts composed by Rajasekhar are a treat; for others they can endure it as it doesn't abound.
Director Samuthirakani is the man behind this appreciable work for he never ventured into the crap formula but did whatever the script demanded. As a matter of fact, the storyline and characters are all praise for the bond called friendship right from the first frame. But given the incidents that takes place it could be left behind as we can't term it as overdone. The finishing touch of the auteur is carried out neat without delving deep into the subject to give an inane solution for the social problem.
'Nadodigal' has ample realism to make it believable and houses cinematic attributes to keep us entertained.
Verdict: Grab a ticket, you won't regret
